Super Mash Bros., “Monsieur Fischel, La Tour Eiffel”
One subgenre that I actively seek new and interesting artists in, (as opposed to using blogs to decide my taste for me,) is the mashup. Ever since having my musical world turned upside-down by first hearing Freelance Hellraiser’s mashup of the Strokes and Christina Aguilera, aptly titled “A Stroke of Genie-us,” in 2001, I have appreciated mashups further and further. Of course, it was Girl Talk who probably tipped me into mashup insanity, but that’s neither here nor there.
This duo, (as introduced to me by the always lovable Morgan,) have put out their debut album, Fuck Bitches, Get Euros. on their Myspace so you can head there to get the whole thing. I especially appreciate the part of the set I have posted here, if only for the beautiful idea of “Come On Eileen” and “Tell Me When To Go” folding into the drumline from Justice’s “Let There Be Light.” SMB really put their all into that 1:00, and while the entire set can’t ride that high, it definitely keeps moving and stays interesting.
The other peak of the album comes at the last two tracks, first with “D.G.A.F.L.Y.F.,” in which “Crank That” is dropped over Darude’s “Sandstorm,” pretty much combining the two most overplayed tracks from their respective genres. However, that isn’t enough, as suddenly “Boom Boom Boom Boom” by the Vengaboys is swapped in as the beat. Finally, the CD finishes up with a nice slow burn in the house-fueled “Testarossas For Everyone,” which wraps it up nicely. It is definitely worth enjoying the middle of the CD for the excellent entry and exit.
So, again, go to the Myspace and download the damn thing.
