people believe in media blackouts on topics like Standing Rock because, same as all conspiracy theories, the truth is much sadder to swallow: 99% of humans are just trying to 1. survive and then, once surviving, 2. feel marginally good. they don’t care, they can’t care, they’re without blame. You don’t win ratings by catering to 1% of viewers. (and, specifically with regards to Standing Rock, Americans [obviously] have a special history of apathy toward Natives.) it is not a shadowy cabal of self-interest at the top but a massive amoebic scrabble for self-interest among us all
