Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling

In this short film, director/screenwriter Max Landis swedes the rise of Triple H as an argument I’ve heard a lot recently and grown to respect: TV wrestling isn’t meant to be a sport, it’s meant to be a story, and beyond that there are loads of other secret stories swirling around us– a creativity drawn up in ads, celebrity gossip, demographics, political stumping and more. I never watched wrestling growing up, but Landis’ own telling of the legend and his cartoonish filmic sensibilities fit his bombastic subject well. (That said, I wish I could grow to respect Max Landis’ beer-crackin’ mannerisms and goofy in-your-face broposture.)
