How did we evolve as a social organism to the point where we feel obligated to lend our support to underdog products?

Strong question.

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies—God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.

from God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut

Man is always prey to his truths. Once he has admitted them, he cannot free himself from them.

Albert Camus

Aaahhhh my duuuuude swear to god (or something) I might as well become a professional existentialist because it’s not like i’ll start making less money

No one gets angry at a mathematician or a physicist whom he or she doesn’t understand at all, or at someone who speaks a foreign language, but rather at someone who tampers with your own language.

Jacques Derrida

I dipped into /r/philosophy and now I’m convincing myself I’m learning shit by reading bite-sized quotes from philosophers through the ages. But it’s quite fun to see which canon theorists are my true yams and which I strongly disagree with. I’ve never read Derrida before but this is killing me with how prescient it is now that we’re all internet’d up in our little insular communities.

Thank you all for coming. And let me just say how truly, deeply trill it is to be standing in this dope-ass conference room, addressing a group of people in a business meeting. It’s really a dream come true.

Tom, Parks and Recreation, “London, Pt. 1 & 2”

Please give me a future where I am able to speak like this in boardrooms if I so desire.

The third track was a piano-heavy instrumental in need of a vocal. Preston teased out a melody: “I’m a lighthouse,” he sang. “I’ll guide you back.” He tried a few variations, then settled on one. Afrojack liked the vocal line, but he wasn’t sure about the song’s structure. “It’s a thirty-second verse, a thirty-second pre-chorus, and a thirty-second chorus,” he said. “Is that right for a radio song?”

“You don’t go by time,” Preston said. “You go by bars.”

Afrojack cocked his head. “What’s ‘bars’?”

One of my favorite DJs, Afrojack, offers me some hope, as we are both guys who really love music and have no idea how to play or write it.

A snake description for an auction held on the Facebook run by Ben Siegel Reptiles. I have a friend who frequently comments and shares their posts, this one caught my eye for how much group-specific language is here: “flame gene is making … combos,” “allelic with fire,” “black eyed leucies.” Even within English, there are so many languages to learn.
